Hair Laser Treatment

Introduction

Procedure:

There are various advantages of using the DUET system over electrolysis. Electrolysis is a popular method of long-term hair removal; however, it can be painful and slow. In this procedure, an electric current passes through a tiny needle to destroy follicles, one by one. Months or even years of regular treatments with electrolysis are required to remove hair on even a small area such as the upper lip.

With DUET, hundreds of hair follicles can be destroyed in less than one second. But with electrolysis, this might take an hour. The DUET laser system is quick, highly effective and relatively comfortable.

What treatment involves

Hair removal treatment with DUET system is an in-office procedure. It may take a few minutes to an hour, depending on the size of the area being treated. The health care provider gently places the cooled hand piece against the skin. As pulses of laser energy are focused through the hand piece, a tingling sensation or mild sting may be felt, which is generally not much uncomfortable. For treatment of sensitive body areas, use of topical anesthetic is recommended.

After treatment, the patient can return to the regular activities immediately. A special skincare regimen tailored to the skin type is advised after laser treatments. Use of sunscreen on the treated areas that may be exposed to the sun is recommended.

Number of treatments:

The number of treatments you need depends on your hair’s growth. Because the laser tends to target hair follicles that are in an active growth phase, you will need at least four treatments to disable follicles that later enter this phase. The location, density and resilience of the hair being treated are other determining factors.

Side effects:

The side effects of DUET treatment are usually minor. These may include slight redness or swelling of the skin at the site of treatment which usually lasts for about 3 to 5 days. In rare cases, there may be some blistering at the treatment site.

Candidates for DUET hair removal treatment:

Any woman or man with unwanted hair is a candidate for DUET. The system works best for dark hair growing on light skin.
