Electrolysis

Introduction

Electrolysis is a treatment for removal of unwanted hair. This procedure uses electricity to remove unwanted hair. This procedure was discovered about 100 years back to remove an ingrown eyelash from a patient. However, in modern days, new techniques of electrolysis are developed by medical professionals. Some methods among these are short wave and high frequency electrolysis hair removal and galvanized current method. Unwanted hair on the face, eyebrows, thighs, legs, back and stomach areas can be removed by using electrolysis.

There is choice for people with unwanted hair between laser and electrolysis. Although both the methods get rid of unwanted hair, the electrolysis therapy is a sort of more permanent solution to the unwanted hair crisis. The electrolysis removes the hairs from deep inside the follicles at their root and unwanted hairs do not return. However, a laser treatment may be less painful, but the unwanted hairs have a tendency to return.

There are no permanent side effects. Sometimes, a slight reddening of the skin occurs during or immediately after treatment, but this will only last for a short time

The electrolysis is a very efficient way to remove unwanted hairs and to augment the self-confidence.

The doctor performing electrolysis needs a license to operate as an electrologist. The procedure of unwanted hair removal by electrolysis is not usually a one-time treatment option. It takes multiple visits to obtain the desired results that the patient is looking for. Patient should access the expenses before opting for the procedure, as the cost of this technique is very high per session. If the patient is spending the money and time, he or she must make sure to perform this procedure in hands of a successful and experienced doctor.

There are various methods of electrolysis for removing Unwanted Hair. However, the two methods are most efficient for hair removal. These are electrolysis and laser Hair Removal. These methods should be compared before performing hair removal, as the choice of the right technique is crucial for success of the treatment.

Permanent Hair Removal by Electrolysis

Within all the methods available for permanent hair removal, electrolysis is the oldest and most widely performed. During the electrolysis procedure, there is slow and steady, one at a time, destruction of the hair follicles. It can be painful, but it is a very effective form of permanent hair removal.

An electrolysist first cleans the skin. By using a magnifying glass, he doctor inserts a small needle into a hair follicle. Electricity is delivered down the needle into the root of the hair, cutting it to prevent further growth. There is no growth as the hair follicle itself is killed. The hair tuft is then removed and the electrolysist cuts the next follicle.

Naturally, removing the hairs one by one has certain disadvantages as compared to Intense Pulsed Light or IPL Hair Removal or laser hair removal. These are as follows:

• Each hair has to be treated individually. Therefore, at least an hour of treatment is required to covers only a relatively small area of unwanted hair.

• Just treating the hair follicles does not ensure the permanent removal of the hair. The hair follicle needs to be caught in a growth phase for the treatment to be effective.

• Also, the needle needs to be placed very skilfully at the right depth for the electric charge to hit the hair root. However, both laser and IPL hair removal also need the hair to be in a growth phase.

• Electrolysis is painful moderately as the patient receives a shot of electricity into the skin of the scalp and certain areas, like the moustache. These areas are especially sensitive and cause watering from the eye.

• Compared to laser or IPL hair removal; the electrolytic hair removal needs the doctor to perform it extremely carefully and smoothly.

• There is also a risk of scarring if an area is treated too aggressively and the patient can get small cuts if the needle is inserted improperly or too deeply.

Considering all this, the electrolysis is a very efficient way to remove unwanted hairs and to augment the self-confidence. However, the cost of the procedure and the disadvantages involved must be weighed carefully against the benefits. The doctor eventually decides which treatment is best suitable for particular patient.
